Educational Spectrometer – Precision Optical Instrument (KS5+)

This high‑quality educational spectrometer is a competitively priced yet highly capable instrument designed for KS5 and advanced post‑16 physics teaching. It is suitable for carrying out meaningful quantitative optical experiments, making it an excellent choice for A‑Level and introductory undergraduate laboratory work.

The spectrometer is constructed from high‑quality cast metal components, including the collimator and telescope bodies, all finished with durable, protective coatings for long‑term reliability. Its robust design ensures mechanical stability, accuracy, and consistent performance in a school or college laboratory environment.

At the centre of the instrument is a large 170mm diameter circular scale, clearly divided from 0–360° in 1° increments. The scale rotates independently and locks securely in position using a clamping screw. A spring‑loaded Vernier scale, mounted on the telescope arm, allows angular measurements to be read with a precision of 0.1°.

The collimator is mounted on a fixed pillar with careful axis adjustment. It features an objective lens with a 150mm focal length and a precision spiral focusing system. A unilaterally adjustable slit, 6mm long, ensures sharp spectral lines for accurate analysis. The telescope, mounted on a movable pillar, provides smooth movement, locking adjustment, and fine focusing via a spiral system. It incorporates a Ramsden eyepiece with cross‑wires, allowing accurate alignment and angular measurement.

The prism table is fitted with three levelling screws for accurate horizontal alignment and marked guide lines to assist correct prism placement. The spectrometer is supplied with a comprehensive set of accessories and full operating instructions, enabling immediate use in teaching laboratories.
