The Molymod RNA Protein Synthesis Kit provides a hands-on, molecular modelling approach to understanding RNA structure and the process of protein synthesis. Designed for classroom use, this kit helps students visualise how genetic information is transferred from DNA to RNA and ultimately used to build proteins.
The model demonstrates key differences between RNA and DNA, including the substitution of uracil (U) for thymine (T), and the presence of ribose sugar instead of deoxyribose. The ribose unit is represented using a distinct darker red component to highlight the additional oxygen group.
Students can construct a single-stranded messenger RNA (mRNA) sequence to represent genetic codons and use additional components to model transfer RNA (tRNA) and amino acids, demonstrating the process of translation during protein synthesis.
Perfect for KS3, GCSE, and A-Level biology, this kit provides a clear and interactive way to teach gene expression and protein synthesis using physical molecular models.
Engaging and highly visual, the Molymod RNA Protein Synthesis Kit helps students build a strong conceptual understanding of how genetic information is expressed to produce proteins in living cells.
Note: A 24-base version (Code 80645) is also available, featuring double the quantities for extended modelling activities.
