Petroleum Spirit 40–60 °C, also known as Petroleum Ether or Ligroine, is supplied in a 500ml UN‑approved container and manufactured to Laboratory Reagent (LR) grade. This low‑boiling petroleum fraction is a highly volatile, non‑polar hydrocarbon solvent intended for controlled educational laboratory use.
Identified by CAS Number: 8032‑32‑4 and UN Number: 1268, this solvent is extremely flammable and must be handled strictly in accordance with laboratory safety procedures and COSHH risk assessments. Its defined boiling range of 40–60 °C makes it especially useful for demonstrating volatility and evaporation rate differences between hydrocarbon fractions.
Please note: this chemical is supplied exclusively to educational establishments. Customers must be logged in with an approved school or institutional account for the Add To Basket button to appear. Orders are shipped only to school addresses.
Due to courier and safety regulations, chemical products cannot be returned. This does not affect statutory rights.
Petroleum Spirit 40–60 °C is particularly suitable for GCSE and A‑Level chemistry lessons, especially when studying hydrocarbons, crude oil fractions, and physical properties of organic solvents. All use should be teacher‑led and carried out in a well‑ventilated laboratory or fume cupboard.
Reliably packaged and supplied specifically for education, Petroleum Spirit 40–60 °C LR Grade provides an effective teaching solvent for illustrating key concepts in organic and physical chemistry while reinforcing best practice in laboratory safety.
