Lung Demonstration Model – Breathing & Respiration Apparatus (KS3+)

The Lung Demonstration Model is a clear, interactive teaching aid that provides students with a first‑hand visual understanding of how the lungs work. Suitable for KS3 and above, this simple yet highly effective model allows learners to observe the mechanics of breathing in real time.

The apparatus consists of two rubber sacs representing the lungs, a flexible rubber membrane acting as the diaphragm, and a clear plastic chamber modelling the chest cavity. By moving the diaphragm membrane, students can clearly see how changes in chest volume cause the lungs to inflate and deflate, directly demonstrating inhalation and exhalation.

With its transparent design and straightforward operation, this model makes abstract biological processes easy to understand and is ideal for teacher demonstrations and guided student observation.

Model dimensions: approximately 16.5cm (diameter) × 33cm (height).

Key Features

  • Designed for KS3, KS4, and secondary biology
  • Clear demonstration of breathing mechanics
  • Two sacs represent the lungs
  • Rubber membrane functions as the diaphragm
  • Transparent chamber models the chest cavity
  • Hands‑on, visual learning aid
  • Durable framework suitable for classroom use

Ideal for School Science & Biology Lessons

This model is ideal for introducing and reinforcing topics related to the human respiratory system. It helps students clearly link diaphragm movement with pressure changes and lung inflation.

  • Teaching breathing and ventilation
  • Explaining the role of the diaphragm
  • Linking structure to function in the respiratory system
  • Supporting lessons on gas exchange
  • Enhancing engagement through visual demonstration

Important Care & Maintenance Information

Please note that the balloons and diaphragm are made from natural rubber and are classed as consumable components. Over time, rubber will degrade, particularly if exposed to heat or light.

  • Store in a cool, dry, dark environment between use
  • A light dusting of talcum powder can help prolong rubber life
  • Rubber components will gradually crack and require replacement

Replacement parts available:
80062 – Spare Balloon Set (Lung Demonstration Model)
80744 – Spare Diaphragm (Lung Demonstration Model)

Clear, engaging, and highly effective, the Lung Demonstration Model is an essential biology teaching resource that brings the mechanics of breathing to life and supports strong conceptual understanding in the classroom.
