suitable for KS4+.
Used for demonstrating the electrolytic decomposition of water or determining chemical composition. Made from heavy duty 3.3. borosilicate Labglass with glass key stopcock. Includes: Hoffman Electrolysis Apparatus with (2) glass stopcocks, (2) carbon electrodes with rubber stoppers, (2) platinum electrodes with rubber stoppers, and instruction guide. Required but not supplied: Support stand with clamps and 12V DC power supply.
The Hoffman Electrolysis Apparatus is used for demonstrating the chemical composition of water and the production of gases through chemical reactions. The 3.3. borosilicate glass unit consists of two 50ml capacity outer tubes graduated in 0.2ml increments, connected to a central tube with a 200ml capacity funnel shaped bulb. The supplied platinum electrodes, mounted with rubber stoppers, are used for the electrolysis of acidified water; carbon electrodes are supplied for ammonia solutions, hydrochloric acid, or other chloride containing solutions. Includes an instruction guide.
The apparatus should be set up vertically ideally using a clamp and stand to hold it safely. Connect the terminals to a DC power source. Matches will be required to test for gases. Chemicals required: Water, molar sodium, or potassium sulphate or sulphuric acid. Supplied in neat, well-protected packing case.
