EdvoTech® Blood‑based Cancer Diagnostics – Experiment 141 (Code 80178)

The EdvoTech® Blood‑based Cancer Diagnostics kit introduces students to the principles behind modern cancer detection and targeted therapy. Cancer cells differ from normal cells by the unique combinations of proteins expressed on their cell surfaces. These proteins, known as cancer markers, can be recognised by specific antibodies, allowing scientists and clinicians to identify cancer cells accurately.

In this simulation experiment, students investigate how antibodies bind specifically to cancer cell antigens, forming the basis of blood‑based diagnostic tests. The activity demonstrates how these molecular interactions enable early cancer detection and support the development of targeted treatments that affect cancer cells while minimising harm to healthy tissue.

Key Features

  • Introduces the principles of blood‑based cancer diagnostics
  • Explores how cancer cell surface markers differ from normal cells
  • Demonstrates antigen–antibody specificity in cancer detection
  • Simulates real‑world clinical diagnostic techniques
  • Highlights the role of biomarkers in early diagnosis and targeted therapy
  • Safe, classroom‑friendly format with no live cells required
  • Part of the advanced EdvoTech® biotechnology education range

Ideal for School Science Lessons

This experiment is ideal for KS4, GCSE, and A‑Level Biology lessons covering cell biology, immunology, genetics, and human health. It provides students with a clear and meaningful insight into how molecular biology is used in medical diagnostics and cancer research.

  • Teaching how antibodies are used in disease detection
  • Exploring the molecular differences between normal and cancer cells
  • Supporting topics in immunology and cell surface proteins
  • Developing understanding of biotechnology in healthcare
  • Encouraging discussion of early detection, personalised medicine, and ethics

Engaging, medically relevant, and curriculum‑aligned, the EdvoTech® Blood‑based Cancer Diagnostics kit helps students understand how modern science is transforming cancer detection and treatment through molecular and immunological techniques.
