The Photochromic Pigment (Purple) is an engaging, light‑sensitive material that reacts instantly when exposed to sunlight or ultraviolet (UV) light. Under normal indoor conditions the pigment appears pale off‑white, but exposure to UV light causes it to transform into a bright, vivid purple. Once the UV source is removed, the pigment gradually fades back to its original pale colour, making the change fully reversible.
Supplied in a practical plastic syringe containing 3g of pigment, this format allows accurate dispensing and minimal waste during classroom use. When combined with a suitable binder such as an acrylic base, the pigment can be permanently applied to a wide range of surfaces including paper, card, plastic, wood, and other experimental or creative materials.
The intensity of the colour change depends on the concentration of pigment in the mixture. More diluted mixtures produce subtler colour effects, while higher concentrations give a stronger visual response. Mixing ratios are best explored experimentally, but a 50:50 pigment‑to‑binder ratio provides an excellent starting point for most investigations.
