Convection in Air Apparatus (Metal Box with Glass Chimneys)

The Convection in Air Apparatus is a classic and highly effective teaching resource designed to clearly demonstrate convection currents in air. Ideal for use in school science laboratories, this apparatus allows students to visually observe how warm air rises and cooler air sinks, reinforcing key concepts in thermal physics and heat transfer.

The unit consists of a robust metal box measuring 220 × 100 × 165mm, fitted with a sliding glass front panel to allow safe and clear viewing of airflow inside the chamber. Two detachable glass chimneys are mounted on the top of the box, enabling comparative demonstrations of air movement when heat is applied to one side of the apparatus.

When used with candles (not included), the apparatus provides a striking visual demonstration of convection: warm air drawn up one chimney while cooler air is drawn down the other. The design allows experiments to be repeated reliably and safely, making it ideal for classroom demonstrations and student observation.
