The Circular Coil on Base is a robust and highly visual teaching apparatus designed to clearly demonstrate magnetic fields produced by an electric current. Mounted securely on a solid base, the circular coil is constructed from 94 turns of 1 mm diameter copper wire, providing a strong and well‑defined magnetic field when connected to a suitable power supply.
A clear plastic sheet above the coil allows iron filings to be scattered safely and evenly. When a current flows through the coil, the filings align to reveal the magnetic field lines, making abstract electromagnetic concepts easy to observe and understand. This makes the apparatus ideal for both teacher demonstrations and student investigations.
For greater versatility, the circular coil can also be used alongside a compass, magnetic field sensor, or datalogger, allowing both qualitative observation and quantitative measurement. For the strongest and clearest effect, a high‑current laboratory power supply (5 A or higher) is recommended.
Perfect for KS3, GCSE, and A‑Level physics lessons, the Circular Coil on Base helps students develop a clear understanding of electromagnetism and the relationship between electricity and magnetism. It is particularly useful for:
Clear, engaging, and highly effective, this Circular Coil on Base is an essential teaching resource for demonstrating core physics principles and encouraging hands‑on learning in school science laboratories.
