The Copper Calorimeter Heating Block is a precision‑engineered physics apparatus designed for the experimental determination of the specific heat capacity of metals. Suitable for KS4, GCSE, and A‑Level physics, this high‑conductivity copper block enables accurate and repeatable investigations into thermal energy transfer.
Manufactured from solid copper, the cylindrical block measures approximately 81mm in height and 44mm in diameter and has a mass of 1kg, adjusted to an accuracy of ±2%. Copper’s excellent thermal conductivity makes this block particularly effective for studying heating and cooling behaviour in controlled experiments.
Each block is precision drilled with two holes: a 12.5mm central hole specifically designed to fit the Better Equipped Premium Immersion Heater (code 0249), and a 7.5mm secondary hole for inserting a thermometer or electronic temperature probe. This configuration allows simultaneous heating and accurate temperature measurement throughout the experiment.
This copper heating block is ideal for secondary school physics lessons focusing on thermal physics, energy transfer, and material properties. It enables students to compare copper with other metals and relate experimental data to theoretical calculations.
Accurate, robust, and curriculum‑aligned, the Copper Calorimeter Heating Block is an essential resource for effective teaching of thermal physics, helping students confidently link theory with real experimental observations.
