The Hyman Fire Piston is a classic and highly engaging physics demonstration apparatus that clearly illustrates the rise in temperature when a fixed mass of gas is rapidly compressed. The apparatus consists of a transparent cylinder containing a small piece of tinder, with air compressed using a hand‑operated piston.
