The Frederiksen Lenz’s Law U-Rail is a high-quality demonstration apparatus designed to clearly illustrate the principles of electromagnetic induction and Lenz’s Law. This engaging physics experiment allows students to observe how magnetic fields interact with conductive materials, making abstract concepts both visible and measurable.
By releasing a magnetic cylinder down a nearly vertical aluminium U-rail, students can observe how the magnet’s motion is significantly slowed compared to a non-magnetic object of the same size and mass. This occurs due to the creation of eddy currents within the conductive rail, which generate an opposing magnetic field in accordance with Lenz’s Law.
The apparatus includes neodymium magnets and non-magnetic dummy cylinders for direct comparison, allowing learners to clearly see the effect of electromagnetic forces. The full 1-metre rail ensures the motion can be tracked throughout the experiment, and the integrated hook allows the system to be mounted with a force sensor for more advanced investigations.
Perfect for GCSE and A-Level physics, the Lenz’s Law U-Rail is an excellent tool for demonstrating key electromagnetic concepts. It is ideal for:
Visual, engaging, and scientifically accurate, the Frederiksen Lenz’s Law U-Rail is an essential teaching aid for bringing electromagnetic theory to life in the classroom.
