Polymorph – 250g Thermoplastic Modelling Material

Polymorph is one of the most versatile and widely used thermoplastic modelling materials for prototyping, model making, and product development. Tough, durable, and engineering‑grade in strength, this polymer becomes soft and mouldable at just 62 °C, allowing rapid shaping by hand with minimal equipment.

Simply heat Polymorph using hot water or a hairdryer until the granules become translucent, then mould it into almost any shape. Once cooled, it forms a strong, rigid plastic that can be reheated and reshaped as many times as needed. While softened, it can also be coloured using a small amount of food dye—ideal for customised models and prototypes.

Polymorph is supplied in a convenient self‑seal bag, along with 2g of colouring powder supplied in a plastic pot. To colour, simply fuse the Polymorph first, then work in the colouring powder mechanically by hand.

Common Uses for Polymorph

  • Moulding custom handles and orthopaedic aids
  • Creating vacuum‑forming moulds
  • Producing batch‑production moulds for small components
  • Modelling prototype mechanical parts
  • Forming armatures and frames for models
  • Building inserts for compliant or cushioned products
  • Crafting specialised components such as motor mounts
  • Moulding complete products (e.g., torch bodies)
  • Joining components and repairing plastics

Ideal for School Science Lessons & Design Projects

Polymorph is a fantastic resource for KS3, GCSE, and A‑Level science and design & technology lessons. Its low melting point and excellent strength make it ideal for teaching about polymers, material properties, thermal behaviour, and rapid prototyping.

  • Demonstrating thermoplastic behaviour and polymer structure
  • Exploring product design and iterative prototyping
  • Building working mechanisms, grips, casings, and components
  • Supporting STEM creativity through hands‑on modelling
  • Providing a safe, reusable material for classroom projects

Strong, reusable, and incredibly versatile, Polymorph is an essential material for workshops, classrooms, and makerspaces, offering students and designers a fast and practical way to turn ideas into physical prototypes.
