ElectroLycra is a unique, highly conductive fabric that looks and feels just like ordinary Lycra, yet offers remarkable electrical properties. Flexible, stretchable and soft, it can be cut into strips to create conductive pathways, act as a compliant substitute for wires, or be incorporated into sensors, switches and wearable electronic projects.
One of its most fascinating characteristics is that its electrical resistance changes when stretched. As the material is pulled tighter in one direction, the resistance increases—yet when stretched perpendicular to that direction, the resistance can drop significantly. This makes it an ideal material for strain‑sensing and interactive wearable technology.
In narrow strips, ElectroLycra also heats up when current passes through it, making it suitable for prototyping heated garments and thermal products such as warm gloves, hats or comfort pads.
This product is supplied as a 100 mm × 1450 mm strip, offering plenty of material for multiple projects, experiments or demonstrations.
Excellent for KS3, GCSE, A‑Level physics, electronics, textiles and product design, ElectroLycra supports hands‑on investigations into:
Versatile, durable and fascinating to work with, ElectroLycra opens up endless possibilities for STEM learning, prototyping and creative engineering.
